Supporting and Defending the Affordable Care Act

This project will work to defend the Affordable Care Act against attempts to repeal, undermine or roll back the law. SBMF will educate small business owners on how the latest changes to ACA marketplaces will impact them, their businesses and their employees, and look for opportunities to support proactive state policies that help build upon the ACA, shore up the insurance markets and undo damage caused by federal lawmakers.

Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement (CIVIC)
Improving the Health of Incarcerated Immigrants & Refugees


Freedom for Immigrants (formerly CIVIC) will monitor, track, and report on the mental and physical health of incarcerated immigrants. Over the course of the next two years, they will conduct interviews with 38,000 people in the immigrant prison system, documenting between 14,000 to 20,000 complaints. they will then will analyze data for patterns of abuse, especially related to mental and physical health, and then make the data public through federal civil rights complaints and a first-of-its-kind real-time public map.

Families USA
Defending and Advancing Medicaid

This grant supports Families USA's work to plan, develop, and implement strategies with state and national partners to prepare for the outcome of the 2018 elections and 2019 state legislative sessions. Funding will support both national work with the Medicaid Coalition and the Medicaid Leadership Coordinating Committee as well as state work defending against 1115 waiver proposals that harm vulnerable populations.
